Adopt a Turkey

Adopt a Turkey 2026 launches on October 23rd! See you soon!

For 40 years, Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt a Turkey Project has encouraged people to center a turkey in their holiday celebration in a compassionate way by sponsoring a rescued turkey—a generous holiday gift that supports our work to protect farm animals nationwide from cruelty.

From our first spokesturkey, Clyde, in the 1980s, to all those who have come after him as ambassadors for kindness each holiday season, the Adopt a Turkey Project has inspired thousands to take a bird under their wing.

The heartbreaking reality is that 46 million turkeys are slaughtered each Thanksgiving in the U.S. You can embrace a kinder tradition.

We invite you to celebrate compassion by symbolically adopting a rescued turkey!

Here’s how:

  • Adopt a Turkey: Support the care of one rescued bird at Farm Sanctuary.
  • Adopt the Flock: Maximize your impact by sponsoring all of our spokesturkeys.

Your gift will help us provide daily, individualized care to your newly adopted friend and the hundreds of other rescued farm animals who call Farm Sanctuary home—while supporting our year-round efforts to fight the harms of factory farming.

With our gratitude, we’ll send all turkey adopters a beautiful adoption certificate (your choice of digital or print)! Adopt for yourself or as a gift to someone you’re thankful for this year.

Meet Our “Adoptable” Turkeys

Tutu
Julie
Galadriel
Brunnhilde
Griffin

Tutu — The Bestie

Tutu was born in an animal factory, an industrial farm where she was treated like a number among 46 million turkeys facing Thanksgiving slaughter. An art student saved Tutu to tell her story, but when the school wouldn’t allow a turkey, Tutu found her happily ever after at Farm Sanctuary.

Tutu has a lot to say and loves to listen, too. She’s like that friend who’s there to chat, remind you of the joy in life, or be a shoulder you can cry on. When this social butterfly’s around, whether she’s in the pool or noshing on snacks, everyone’s having fun.

Julie — The Introvert

Julie was going to be killed for Thanksgiving at four months old, but after her flockmates died, the lonely bird followed her guardian everywhere. Grieving Julie’s search for a friend inspired a change of heart that saved her life.

Julie is anxious about the world, but she’s curious and kind, too. She’s that friend who’s in your inner circle for life once she warms up. She gets excited to see her caregivers and even likes to play these days. Julie’s safe place is a friendship that feels like home, and she loves peaceful days with her buddy, Roberto.

Galadriel - The Dreamer

Galadriel once lived at another sanctuary, where safety and comfort were promised but not given. She was denied the proper shelter, food, and veterinary care she needed. But at Farm Sanctuary, a promise is forever, and this enthusiastic gal is not just living but thriving, as she inspires us daily with her zest for life.

Galadriel is an outdoorsy explorer. She’s that friend who makes the perfect travel companion, always up for going to fun places and learning new things. Galadriel dreams big and sees hope for adventure in every moment.

Brunhilde — The Busy Bee

Brunnhilde was born on a farm where animals were raised as friends. When their guardian died, his wife couldn’t care for the animals alone, but she knew she could keep the promise that they’d always be safe. We helped find homes for everyone, including Brunnhilde and her turkey companions, who came to Farm Sanctuary.

Brunnhilde is lovingly known as an “assistant” around the sanctuary. She’s that friend who’s always willing to lend a helping hand. She likes to keep herself busy by following her caregivers during our daily tasks and, most importantly, making sure snacks are offered on time.

Griffin — The Lovebird

Griffin ran for his life when he was set loose in a Los Angeles shopping center and hunted for Thanksgiving. Luckily, a compassionate family saved this kindhearted bird and brought him to sanctuary rather than slaughter.

Griffin wears his heart on his sleeve. He’s that friend who has you believing in the power of love—even love at first sight. Admittedly, Griffin likes to stare at himself in the mirror, but from day one, he’s really only had eyes for Serena and Thelma. Griffin walks past the ladies of the flock, showing off and lighting up when they notice.

The Flock

The Flock

Each rescued turkey at Farm Sanctuary has a unique personality. Julie is shy and finding her place in the flock, while Tutu is the social butterfly and a great listener. Griffin is a charmer who’s in love with love, while Galadriel is an explorer, always dreaming of the next adventure, and Brunnhilde likes to stay busy wherever there are snacks and a task to help with. Despite their differences, they are each a cherished member of our Farm Sanctuary family—and ambassadors for the 46 million turkeys lost to Thanksgiving each year.

FAQs

Each year, the United States slaughters 46 million turkeys for Thanksgiving. Most live in severe crowding and confinement on factory farms and endure painful mutilations, including debeaking and toe removal without anesthesia. These living, feeling individuals deserve so much better.

Your sponsorship gift helps provide for your turkey’s day-to-day needs — including food, straw bedding, and medical care. It also supports Farm Sanctuary’s rescue, education, and advocacy work on behalf of turkeys still entrapped within America’s farming system.

Turkeys have unlimited sponsors — it takes a lot to support our rescued animals’ lifelong, individualized care. And there’s plenty of love to go around!

Thank you for your compassion! Learn more about our Farm Animal Adoption Network (Farm Sanctuary’s external placement program).

These turkeys are permanent Farm Sanctuary residents! They were rescued from harm and receive daily, specialized care. They’ll spend the rest of their natural lives among their flocks.

We’ll send you a print or digital certificate (your choice!) featuring your new turkey friend.
